Make Your Own Darn Good Cookies was initially published as a paperback book on 26 October 2018. During December 2018 I published the e-book also on Amazon and summer of 2019 I went wide and published on Smashwords. The book and manuscript have had a few variations along the way. Here’s what to look for to identify which generation you may have.
First Generation
Initially my book went out with cover-art errors and in the body of the book. Overall the yellow and light blue were muted and the dark blue verged on an Indian blue tone. What makes these copies most easily identifiable is the spine. The title is in a narrow Indian blue spine with small letters; the light blue from the front and back of the cover wrap around onto the spine.
These books went out during the first week of publication before I caught the error. I think somewhere between 6 and 12 copies were ordered from Amazon. My understanding is that Ingram ordered about 250 copies at one point — I do not know if it is among these. So far as I know, these are very rare. I’ve only seen 2-3 of them and I regret that I don’t own even one myself. I have told the people I know who own these that they may want to not use them and keep them protected.
Overall, the first 13 copies of my book that I signed I included a note more or less saying “Copy #__ signed by the author.” The number count is based on the ‘Baker’s Dozen’ concept and I intend to do this with all recipe books I publish. A few of these narrow-spine copies have this number-note inside.
Second Generation
The second version of my book I had on the market until Fall 2019. There were a number of errors on the inside. I became aware of these through preparing the manuscript to be published as an e-book on Amazon. I decided to let these errors go for the first year letting my readers know that these existed and asking them to notify me of any others they found.
Third Generation
The third generation of my book came in September or October 2019 (note ‘Fall 2019’ above). I uploaded the manuscript with the corrections to the second generation of my book. Lastly, I changed the cover from glossy to matte. At the time of writing this, I still have a supply of about 100 copies in my possession to sell.
